How we chose
Ranked on published manufacturer specs and features for cutting ceramic and porcelain tile on a DIY floor, wall or backsplash project; not hands-on tested. Every spec is quoted from the maker's product page or manual, linked under each pick, and was checked on . We show no ratings, and no prices except Amazon's own, with the time Amazon reported them; the order is our judgment on these criteria:
- Cut capacity for DIY tile. The saw has to make the longest cut on the job. Yes when the maker publishes at least a 24 in rip, 18 × 18 in tile on the diagonal, or no size limit; partly when it publishes less, or only the largest tile its table supports. A 12 × 24 in plank needs a 24 in cut lengthwise and 26.83 in corner to corner.
- A sliding cart or table. A cart or sliding table carries the tile past the blade in a straight line, so long cuts stay straight without guiding the tile by hand along a fence.
- Setup and carrying. Yes when the saw weighs under 40 lb, or comes with a stand and its maker says one person can carry it; partly for a stand without that claim, or 40 to 70 lb without a stand.
- Water containment. Wet saws throw water. Yes when the maker publishes a system that keeps the water at the saw, which is what lets you cut indoors; partly for a recirculating tray; no for a plain reservoir.
- Bevel and plunge cuts. Bevels finish edges and outside corners; plunge cuts make notches and openings in the middle of a tile. Yes when the maker publishes both, partly for one.
The picks in detail
1. Best overall for DIY tile floors: DEWALT D24000S
The only pick that meets all five criteria in full. Its cutting cart rips 25 in, plunges to 28 in and is listed for 18 × 18 in tile on the diagonal, enough for the 26.83 in corner-to-corner cut of a 12 × 24 in plank with a plunge. The D24001 stand is included, DEWALT says one person can carry the 69 lb saw, and it describes the water containment as fit for a home set-up.

What to look for in a wet tile saw
A wet saw cuts tile with a diamond blade cooled by water. Blade size gets the attention, but for a floor, wall or backsplash these are the specs that decide whether a saw fits your tile:
- Cut length for your largest tile. Check the published rip (the longest straight cut) and diagonal capacity against your tile. A 10 in blade on a cart that travels 25 in cuts longer tile than a 7 in blade on an 18 in sliding table, and a tabletop saw has no cart to run out of: QEP lists no size limit for the 700XT.
- A cart or sliding table. The tile rides past the blade in a straight line instead of being fed by hand along a fence, which keeps long cuts straight.
- Water containment. Wet saws throw water. To cut in the room you are tiling, pick a saw whose maker publishes a containment system, such as SKIL's HydroLock or the D24000S's side and rear extensions.
- Stand and weight. Both DEWALT saws come with a stand. The 7 in saws weigh 18 to 35.5 lb, and MK sells a folding stand for the MK-370EXP separately.
- Bevel and plunge cuts. A bevel finishes an outside corner or an edge; a plunge cut starts in the middle of a tile for a notch or an opening around a pipe or outlet.
- Depth of cut. Check it against your thickest tile or stone: QEP lists 1-1/4 in for the 700XT, MK lists 2 in for the MK-370EXP, and DEWALT lists 3-3/4 in for the D24000S.
Match the saw to your tile
Start with the tile calculator: it counts the tiles and boxes for your floor or wall. Its default 12 × 10 ft floor with 1/8 in joints and 10% extra takes 130 tiles of 12 × 12 in or 65 of 12 × 24 in. Then find the longest cut those tiles need. A straight cut along a tile is as long as its side; a cut from corner to corner, for a diagonal layout or a triangle at a wall, is longer:
Corner to corner = √(width² + length²) Square tile = side × 1.414 12 × 12 in = √(12² + 12²) = 16.97 in 18 × 18 in = √(18² + 18²) = 25.46 in 12 × 24 in = √(12² + 24²) = 26.83 in 24 × 24 in = √(24² + 24²) = 33.94 in Largest square tile from a rip ≈ rip ÷ 1.414 MK-370EXP = 18 ÷ 1.414 = 12.73 in D24000S = 25 ÷ 1.414 = 17.68 in D36000S = 37 ÷ 1.414 = 26.16 in
The makers' own diagonal ratings sit close to that estimate: MK lists the MK-370EXP for 13 in tile (the estimate is 12.73 in) and DEWALT lists the D24000S for 18 × 18 in tile (estimate 17.68 in). Where a maker lists a size, go by the maker's figure.

| Tile | Tiles to buy | Longest straight cut | Corner to corner |
|---|---|---|---|
| 12 × 12 in | 130 | 12 in | 16.97 in |
| 18 × 18 in | 58 | 18 in | 25.46 in |
| 12 × 24 in | 65 | 24 in | 26.83 in |
| 24 × 24 in | 33 | 24 in | 33.94 in |
Tiles to buy: the tile calculator with 1/8 in joints and 10% extra.
| Pick | 12 × 12 in | 18 × 18 in | 12 × 24 in | 24 × 24 in |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DEWALT D24000S | Yes (listed) | Yes (listed) | With a plunge | No |
| DEWALT D36000S | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| MK Diamond MK-370EXP | Yes (listed) | No | No | No |
| QEP 22700Q | No limit listed | No limit listed | No limit listed | No limit listed |
Yes: the maker's rip is at least the corner-to-corner cut. Listed: the maker names that tile size on the diagonal. SKIL publishes tile sizes for its saws, not cut lengths, so neither SKIL saw is in this table.
So for tile up to 18 × 18 in, or 12 × 24 in planks with a plunge, the D24000S covers every cut in the table but the 24 × 24 in diagonal; the D36000S covers all four. The MK-370EXP cuts 12 × 12 in tile corner to corner and 12 × 24 in planks across, but its 18 in table is too short to rip them lengthwise. Patterns with more cuts need more extra tile: the tile layout patterns guide covers offsets and how much to add by pattern.
How the ranks add up
Each pick is scored Yes, Partly or No on the five criteria under How we chose, from its published specs alone, and the order follows the number of Yes, then of Partly. The QEP 700XT and the SKIL 3550-02 tie; the 700XT ranks higher because QEP publishes its cut capacity and SKIL does not.
| Pick | Cut capacity | Cart or sliding table | Setup and carrying | Water | Bevel and plunge | Yes / Partly |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. DEWALT D24000S | Yes: rip 25 in; diagonal 18 × 18 in tile | Yes: Rubber-matted cutting cart | Yes: 69 lb (saw); one person can carry it; stand included | Yes: water containment for a home set-up; side and rear extensions return water to the tub | Yes: bevel Up to 45°; plunge cuts | 5 / 0 |
| 2. DEWALT D36000S | Yes: rip 37 in | Yes: Cutting cart with side extension | Partly: 91 lb; stand included | Yes: water tray contains tile up to 18 × 36 in or 24 × 24 in, keeping the work area dry | Partly: no bevel published; plunge cuts | 3 / 2 |
| 3. MK Diamond MK-370EXP | Partly: rip 18 in; diagonal 13 in tile | Yes: Sliding die-cast aluminum table | Yes: 35.5 lb; folding stand sold separately | No: removable reservoir with submersible pump | Yes: bevel 45° tilting head; plunge cuts | 3 / 1 |
| 4. QEP 22700Q | Yes: rip unlimited; diagonal unlimited | No: Tabletop with a lock-down rip guide | Yes: 19 lb | Partly: deep tray with a recirculation channel | Partly: bevel 22.5° or 45°; no plunge | 2 / 2 |
| 5. SKIL 3550-02 | Partly: Tiles up to 18 × 18 in with the sliding side extension | No: Aluminum tabletop with rip fence and miter gauge | Yes: 24 lb | Yes: hydrolock containment keeps water near the blade | Partly: bevel 0, 22.5 and 45°; no plunge | 2 / 2 |
| 6. SKIL 3540-02 | Partly: diagonal 7.25 in | No: Stainless steel table with rip fence and miter gauge | Yes: 18 lb | No: blade-cooling water reservoir | Partly: bevel 0–45°; no plunge | 1 / 2 |
A spec a maker does not publish counts as No, never as an estimate.
Cart saw or tabletop saw?
On a cart saw, such as the two DEWALT saws or the MK-370EXP with its sliding table, the tile sits still on the cart while you push it past the blade, so a long cut stays straight, and the cutting head lifts for plunge cuts. On a tabletop saw, such as the QEP 700XT and both SKIL saws, you slide the tile across the table against a fence. Those saws weigh 18 to 24 lb here and suit cuts you can guide steadily by hand.
For a DIY job, carrying and setup count alongside capacity: the D24000S ranks first because it covers 18 × 18 in tile and 12 × 24 in planks and DEWALT says one person can carry it. The rest of the catalog's tile tools are on the top tool picks page.
Frequently asked questions
What size wet tile saw do I need?
Size it to the longest cut in the job. A cut from corner to corner is the tile's side × 1.414: 16.97 in for 12 × 12 in tile, 25.46 in for 18 × 18 in and 33.94 in for 24 × 24 in. A 12 × 24 in plank needs a 24 in cut lengthwise and 26.83 in corner to corner. Compare those lengths with the rip or diagonal capacity the maker publishes.
Is a 7 in or a 10 in wet tile saw better for DIY?
It depends on the tile. The 7 in picks here publish 18 in of sliding-table cut (MK-370EXP), tile support up to 12 × 12 in or 18 × 18 in (SKIL), or no size limit on an open tabletop (QEP 700XT). The 10 in DEWALT D24000S cuts 3-3/4 in deep and rips 25 in on a cart, which suits 18 × 18 in tile and 12 × 24 in planks, and the D36000S rips 37 in for larger tile.
Can I use a wet tile saw indoors?
Only with a saw that keeps its water at the saw. SKIL says the HydroLock system on the 3550-02 lets you cut tile in the room where it is being installed, and DEWALT says the D24000S's water containment allows a home set-up. DEWALT's D24000 manual also says to plug the saw into a GFCI receptacle and test the GFCI before each use.
How many tiles do I need for a 12 × 10 ft floor?
With 1/8 in joints and 10% extra, the tile calculator gives 130 tiles of 12 × 12 in, 58 tiles of 18 × 18 in, 65 tiles of 12 × 24 in or 33 tiles of 24 × 24 in. Patterns with more cuts, such as herringbone or a diagonal layout, need more extra: see the tile layout patterns guide.
Did you test these tile saws?
No. They are ranked on each maker's published specs for DIY tile work, and every spec on this page links to the maker's own page or manual. The tile counts and cut lengths are worked out with this site's tile calculator and plain geometry.
