Who writes the pages

Pages are published under the Yardwork organization byline. We do not invent authors, credentials, or experience. If named authors are added, each will be a real person with verifiable details.

Pages were drafted with the help of AI software. That is why the checks below exist: formulas are verified by automated tests, and every material constant links to the primary source it came from, so you can check our work.

Sources for numbers

  • Unit definitions (feet, inches, cubic yards, gallons) come from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
  • Product figures such as concrete bag yields come from the manufacturer's own data sheet for that specific product. We name the product next to every figure. We do not assume one product's yield applies to another.
  • Figures that vary by product or supplier, such as paint coverage, mulch bag volume, and gravel or soil density, are entered by you from the label or your supplier's quote. A default may be filled in for the worked example, and it is labeled with where it came from.
  • For each constant we record the source address, the product or material it covers, the value and units, the date we checked it, and the statement it comes from. Source links are checked automatically, and a link that fails is reported, never hidden.

Testing the calculators

Each formula has automated tests that recompute results by a different route than the calculator uses. For example, they convert to meters first instead of cubic feet, or they check against hand-worked figures. Tests cover unit conversions, waste allowances, rounding at exact whole-bag boundaries, and invalid inputs. Purchase quantities always round up, so display rounding never leads you to under-order.

What we don't claim

  • We have not field-tested materials or measured products ourselves, and we do not say we have.
  • Calculators measure quantities and geometry. They do not choose structural specifications or replace code requirements.
  • We make no guarantees about paint coverage, product yields, or delivered volumes. Manufacturers and suppliers set those.

Advertising and independence

Advertising never appears inside calculator inputs or results, and advertisers do not influence calculations or content. We don't accept payment for product mentions. Products are named only where a published manufacturer figure is used.

Corrections and updates

If you find an error, please tell us. Confirmed errors are fixed and the page's updated date changes. A page's updated date changes only when its content changes substantively, not on every site rebuild.
